During a recent visit to India, over dinner with a friend, I got confirmation that India was now among the top five countries in terms of wind power generating capacity. Renewable energy and climate change have been interesting theoretical topics for me, but they are also a huge business opportunity. The fifth largest manufacturer of wind turbines is also Indian - Suzlon - and is larger than Siemens.
NYTimes presents an article on Suzlon and more generally on wind power in India and China (The Ascent of Wind Power). More proof of where the action is, it is also a case study on the special challenges and resulting competencies of working in a developing country.
Unfortunately, I have found little hard data on the cost of generating wind, solar and other renewable energy when compared with coal based electricity in India. In particular, how much does each cost the end user? Any useful studies out there?
Dweep,
I came across this paper about renewable energy.
Thanks for the link. Very useful read.
