First impressions

First day at work. Second in Nairobi.

First impressions of Nairobi? Its a big city, big enough to take a while to know. Certainly no Geneva. People are nice and friendly. Everyone greets you with a smile. They ask how you are. They like to know your name, and you should ask theirs. They smile a lot.

Nairobi gets a bad rap from everyone. Tourists, expats, even locals. If you believe all you hear, all locals are out to rip you off. Beware of thugs, don’t walk alone at night, and avoid public transport. To be fair you could say all that about Washington DC as well – or parts of it. At least in Nairobi, even if they rip you off, they will perhaps do it with a smile.
